TOYOTA has unleashed it’s domestic home product, the MARK X for all to see. It is not available in America, and that might be a good thing. Looking like a aftermarket Camry, the Mark X is Toyota’s flagship sporty sedan. Once built off the Lexus GS platform, that should give you an idea about its size. But here’s the thing – the styling, while a bit heavy handed, and clumsy, also has some compelling parts – in places that Toyota certainly isn’t known for. The grill for instance, is modern and certainly more interesting that the effect Lexus has treated it with. Chrome surrounds with integrated LEDs, and a pulled back headlight cluster with light tubes look very elegant and sporty. Better, perhaps than anything Toyota / Lexus is currently offering here. The back end, on the other hand, well, you can say is that it looks like a Camry and a Nissan GT-R had a baby, with mixed results. So the best thing to come away with, is the knowledge that at least we know someone at Toyota’s styling department is awake at the wheel. If only for a moment.
