I live in Los Angeles, the city of Dreams…

Say "Los Angeles" to people and they think: Movies, Celebrity, Wealth, Beauty, and Cars. Unlike any other city in the world, those dreams are manifest in the automobile. Here, the car is more than a mode of transportation. it is a statement, an invitation, a facade and a fact. L.A., it has been said, is a city built on the idea of the automobile, and it is here, where it is most celebrated. Detroit may be the Motor City, but it is here where the fruits of those labors ripen. Like having the right house, the right clothes and the right amount of Botox, having the right car is as equally important and futile.

I grew up in the Midwest. I have lived in New York and Europe. I am, by profession, in the "industry" - fashion/movies/entertainment. But I have always loved cars. And here in Los Angeles, my worlds have collided. Like a kid in a candy store, everyday I see cars, the way we live with them, and the way they influence everyone else. I am fascinated, possibly obsessed. After all these years of studying, dreaming of and driving, am I an expert? ... Maybe. I habitually read the blogs, the magazines. Friends, family and co-workers have made me there unofficial authority based on my enjoyment and never ending ranting. So it was time to write it all down.

I'm not into racing, I don't follow the aftermarket scene, and the seriously more technical aspects bore me. There are other sites for 0-60, press releases and car industry gossip. Here I will write about the context of the automobile in this mixture of people, places, status seekers, image-makers & fakers. Not only what these cars mean to us, but our perceptions of them as well.

This is a journal of my experiences, my opinions and interests. It is not the final word. I welcome (polite) discourse. Feel free to agree/disagree. Please comment.
